The 21 Acres Story
The 21 Acres Center is an innovative, community-driven project that will serve as an agricultural and environmental learning center for people of all ages. It is an “agri-urban park” that is accessible to the whole community! 21 Acres includes a bio-diverse farmstead with trails for physical activity, interpretive educational signage, and cultivated farm plots used to demonstrate sustainable and organic farming practices. 21 Acres will educate both young and old about where our food comes from and how locally grown food plays a crucial role in a sustainable lifestyle.
21 Acres is committed
to making local, sustainable-grown food a cornerstone of healthy
lifestyles and communities. While rapid
urbanization in what used to be rural valleys in the regions is putting
local farms at risk of disappearing forever, 21 Acres has restored
farmland once overgrown with blackberries and other invasive weeds. The
land now supports 80 community garden plots and a farm
growing food for families, market, schools and hunger relief.
The Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living will feature a
cutting-edge "green-built" facility that will feature a year round
farmers market, community kitchen and space for its popular classes on
urban farming techniques and sustainability-providing vital
infrastructure and education to help keep small farms in business.
Our partnerships with various local schools and youth groups provide kids with opportunities for hands-on discovery in an outdoor environment.
