Seattle Tilth's Chicken Coop & Urban Farm Tour
This is your chance to visit folks who are keeping chickens and creating "urban farms" right here in the city of Seattle and in the surrounding area. On Saturday, July 14, glean great ideas from creative neighbors who are incorporating animals and unique gardens into their home landscapes.
In this self-guided tour to dozens of sites, you will see simple chicken coops built in an afternoon and elaborate set-ups that took weeks of planning and building. See exactly how chickens, goats, ducks and honey bees live together with people in an urban environment. Learn by seeing!
Seattle Tilth has been organizing this community event for over a decade, originally to encourage people to raise chickens in the city. Since then, the event has expanded in both topic and turf to include urban and suburban sites, as well as a wide variety of animals and agricultural practices. Tour participants get face time with chickens, ducks, mini dairy goats, honey bees, and more.
After meeting community members leading the way in the urban livestock movement, you can do more than just dream about fresh and nutritious eggs, milk, and honey from your own backyard! Seattle Tilth teaches classes throughout the year on raising chickens, goats, ducks and bees and organic gardening.
This tour might be the inspiration you need to begin a fun and rewarding new hobby! Come glean ideas to expand your agricultural endeavors at home. Chat with local experts and meet like-minded folks. Some people go on this tour year after year just because its a fun, interesting outing!
Do you have a funky chicken coop, great goats, rad rabbits, or an all around interesting urban farm? You could be a host on the tour. We're looking for 30-40 diverse sites all of the greater Seattle area to put on the tour. Check back for applications in mid-May, or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Businesses and organizations can support Seattle Tilth's mission and connect with our community through event sponsorships. Contact us to find out about sponsor opportunities with Seattle Tilth (206) 633-0451 ext. 119.
